CCD Goes to Sta. Eulalia, Baao for Relief Operation
As a concrete response to flooding in some areas in Camarines Sur due to incessant heavy rains, the Center of Community Development (CCD) backed by the funding from the University Social Involvement Council of the Ateneo de Naga University and contributions from the Simbahang Lingkod ng Bayan formed a calamity reaction plan to conduct food relief operation to the residents of Barangay Sta. Eulalia, in the muunicipality of Baao, Camarines Sur last March 10, 2008.
The continuous rainfall during the months of January and February submerged the whole barangay in chest high floodwater and wiped out most farmlands of the residents. In response to this, CCD-ADNU, SLB and the International Organization of Migration (IOM) sought to give the people of Barangay Sta. Eulalaia,,Baao with relief packages.
The relief package consisted of 4 kilos of rice, 2 cans of sardines, 2 cans of corned beef, 1 pack of powdered milk (85 grams), 45 grams of coffee, and 1/4 kilo of brown sugar which benefited 240 families.
The repacking of the goods was done by 15 student volunteers from the Ateneo De Naga University. The actual relief operation in the area was manned by seven faculty members coming from various departments of the Ateneo De Naga University and was headed by Larry Sucatre and Elmer Sto. Domingo of the CCD.
