National Competitive Council (NCC) partners
with the College of Education

The National Competitiveness Council (NCC), under the Office of the President, Malacañang created by virtue of Executive Order 571 engaged in the implementation of the Action Agenda for Competitiveness Summit in October 2006 collaborates with the College of Education in the training of teachers in Math, Science and English.

The working group on Competitive Human Resources is chartered to implement action programs to enhance the competencies of Filipino human resources for national progress. One of its specific action programs is to improve proficiencies in English, Math and Science by 30% in 2010. While there are already several initiatives being undertaken by both public and private sectors to address this concern, one of the major constraints remain to be the lack of qualified teachers.

Commissioner Ruth Rana-Padilla of the Professional Regulations Commission informed the NCC about the 6-week Summer Program being offered by the Ateneo de Naga University to non-education graduates.

Dr. Arnulfo Aaron R. Reganit, Dean of the College of Education, had a meeting with the working group last February 23, 2008 at the NCC Office to work on the areas of partnership and cooperation.

Last April 2, 2008, Dr. Reganit was requested by NCC to be the resource person in a meeting with other ten selected teacher training institutions from other parts of the country to discuss the proposed National Teacher Certification Program (NCTP).
