College of Education designated as Center of Training

Out of more than 1,500 teacher training institutions in the Philippines, the College of Education has been designated as one of the 80 Centers of Training (COT) by the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

At orientation conference held at Tagaytay City, a Certificate of Recognition signed by DepEd Secretary Jessie Lapus and CHED Chair Romulo Neri was received by Dr. Ronald Sp. Elicay and Dr. Evelyn Autor who represented Dr. Arnulfo Aaaron R. Reganit, the College Dean.

As a Center of Training, the College of Education shall develop quality certificate programs for non-majors identified by DepEd and develop quality INSET programs for the continuing professional education of basic education teachers.

Moreover, the College shall deliver quality instructional programs in teacher education in line with the basic education programs and projects of DepEd. It shall also develop training needs assessment tools based on the National Competency-Base teacher Standards (NCBTS).

On the part of DepEd, it shall identify and prioritize the basic education teachers who will undergo the certificate programs and INSET and provide training funds to the College of Education as COT.
