By: Chilette P. Arce-Abarca, College of Commerce

Seven (7) Commerce faculty members and four (4) BS Entrepreneurship students attended the Annual Conference of the Entrepreneurship Educators Association of the Philippines (ENEDA) held last February 27 – March 1, 2008 at the Queen's Resort, Boracay Island, Malay, Aklan..

With the theme, “Sustainable Development Through Entrepreneurship”, the objective of the conference was to enhance the role of education in creating a more entrepreneurial culture in the Philippine society, stimulating young people's awareness of entrepreneurship as options for their future, and help them to be more creative and self-confident in whatever they undertake.

Dr. Edwin P. Bernal, Dean of the College of Commerce, was one of the invited resource speakers who gave a talk on the topic, Academe-Government Effective Partnership towards Sustainable Entrepreneurship Education.

Highlight of the conference was the awarding of Outstanding Entrepreneurship Students of the Philippines.  Ms. Caroline Orcena and Ms. Steffi Borromeo, both Madrigal Entrepreneurship scholars bagged the First and Second place, respectively.  Earlier, election of officers of both students' and educators' organizations were held. Mr. Jeric Glenn Carrascal, also a Madrigal Entrepreneurship scholar, was elected National President of the Association of Young Entrepreneurs (AYE) and Dr. Edwin P. Bernal made it to the ENEDA Board of Directors.

After a hectic 2-day conference, the 11 participants were able to go swimming, shopping and experiencing the Boracay night life.  Sight-seeing tour and island hopping was also organized by the group.  It definitely gave the participants a chance to unwind and recharge after a most challenging second semester.
