The AdNU College of Computer Studies held the 1st Ateneo Programming Challenge last January 27 and February 7, 2008 at the Madrigal Building for Social Entrepreneurship in AdNU. The Programming Challenge is a Bicol-wide computer programming competition initiated by Dr. Allan Sioson, Dean of the College of Computer Studies, and Mr. Joshua Martinez, Chair of the Department of Computer Science. It aims to simulate the Association of Computing Machinery Inter-Collegiate Programming Competition (ACM-ICPC) and to demonstrate and sharpen the students’ problem solving skills while interacting with students from other colleges and universities.
The qualifying round for the Individual Category last January 27 selected 16 out of 38 participants where Edgar Manuel Aureus of Naga College Foundation took the top spot. The final round for the Individual Category and the Team Category were held last February 7, 2008. The latter was composed of eight teams, each made up of three students, from different colleges and universities in the region. The participants of both categories were given seven problems to solve. After three hours, the winners were determined: Edgar Manuel Aureus, solving 4 out of the 7 given problems, defended his title in the Individual Category and emerged as the winner. Jelly Pantoja of Ateneo De Naga University and Mark Kenneth Rañosa of AMA-Legazpi bagged the second and third place respectively. The team Category’s top spot was won by the team from Divine Word College of Legazpi, and the team from the University of Nueva Caceres took the second place.
