The City Government of Naga, through the Naga City Division of City Schools, and the Ateneo de Naga University (ADNU), through its College of Education, have agreed in a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to work together in implementing a Program for Early Childhood Education for day care and pre-school teachers in Naga City.
In the MoA, the City Government, through the DepEd-Naga shall (1) select qualified teachers who shall undergo a summer training on the conduct of early childhood education, (2) provide funds amounting to Php 255,000.00 for the 51 teacher-participants and (3) remit the amount due directly to ADNU on or before April 7, 2010.
Morover, the ADNU College of Education shall (1) provide a one-summer program on Early Childhood Education with a 9-unit credit, (2) provide the venue, facilities, competent faculty and academic resources for the duration of the program and (3) provide DepEd-Naga with periodic reports of performance and status of teacher-participants and final evaluation of the program.
This project is in line with the government’s mandate to utilize resources for the effective delivery of basic services that include education, recognizing the need to upgrade and strengthen the capability of teachers in the field of early childhood education as a vital key in improving the quality of education as a whole. Thus, DepEd has started to mainstream the Early Childhood Education in the basic education and focus its reforms on addressing the needs related to the required knowledge and skills of teachers in this area.
