The Bro. Richie Fernando, SJ Hall was packed with Math educators in this year's Mathematics Conference with the theme Mathematics Education: Current Situation and Challenges in Bicol Development held last 6 February 2010.
The theme for this year's conference was focused on today's situation of Mathematics Education in the Bicol Region and the challenges and difficulties that both students and educators are facing.
The conference provided a forum for Bicol math educators from elementary, secondary, and tertiary levels to interact and share their research and teaching innovations toward the promotion of mathematics and mathematics education in the region.
The morning session had two general talks, College Student at Risk of Underachieving in Mathematics (Ms. Cresencia Laguerta, M.S. of AdNU) and Mathematics Framework: Its Implications for Mathematics Teachers (Dr. Cornelia Soto, Ph.D. of AdMU). The afternoon session were divided into two parallel sets.
The first set was composed of Divisibility Rules via Congruences (Mr. Engelbert Baloloy of AdNU), Basic Mathematics: A Theoretical Approach (Mr. Keneth Dagal of AdNU), Approaches and Techniques in Trigonometry (Mr. Francis Delloro of AdNU), and Stat my Data using SSR (Ms. Yumi Vivien Valenzuela of Aquinas University).
The second set was composed of Communicating Mathematically (Mr. Donnie Ballecer of AdNU), Teaching to Think Mathematically (Ms. Rachelle dela Torre of UPLB), Combinatorics on Words (Dr. Joel Noche, Ph.D. of UP Open University), and A Bag of Tricks in Teaching Mathematics (Mr. Fielo Salcedo of AdNU).
