Psychology Week started with a very positive atmosphere, kicking off with the theme: We Find Ways: Various Fields in Psychology, Finding Ways to a Happy Life. The week’s first day, 25 January 2010, began with a series of events at the Arrupe Convention Hall. Dr. Bernadette Dayan, Department Chair of Literature and Language Studies, gave her Welcome Remarks, followed by the introduction of the keynote speaker by Dr. Ronaldo Elicay, Department Chair of Psychology. The morning’s main event was the keynote lecture by Dr. Grace Koo, an Educational Psychologist, a Harvard University Fellow and a UP Professor, about Positive Psychology and Motivation.
All Roads Lead to Happiness: A Sharing on How the Different Fields in Psychology Contribute to a Happy Life by the Faculty came next. Dr. Leonor Mendoza spoke for Social Psychology, Mrs. Antonieta Rodriguez, Ph.D. (cand.) for Educational Psychology, Mrs. Marianne Ayo-Permale, M.A. for SPED, Ms. Catherine Bobis, M.A. for Counseling, Mrs. Ma. Regina Pamela Rosales, M.A. for Assessment and Mrs. Gilda Gomez, Ph.D. (cand.) for Clinical Psychology.
Paper presentations from the Alumni was next. Ms. Luane Priscilla Mendoza, Testing Coordinator at the Ateneo de Naga High School, presented her paper on Basic Psychological Needs Satisfaction and Subjective Well-Being among Female High School Students, while Ms. Ma. Angeli Aboga, Guidance Counselor of Divine Word College of Legazpi, presented her paper on Subjective Well-Being, Level Self-Esteem and Conflict Management Strategies among Ateneo Performing Artists.
Certificates were distributed to the speakers and participants by Dr. Rodriguez and Precious Nicomedes, Event Head for Psych Week 2010. Dr. Alfredo C. Fabay, the Dean of the Graduate School gave the closing remarks.
Jo-ed Tome, APSA President, and Dr. Leonor Mendoza were the events’ Masters of Ceremony.
