The Ateneo de Naga
University Intensive English Program (AdNU-IEP) is designed primarily for
foreign nationals who have serious desire to improve their English Language
skills for educational and professional applications. This challenging English
as a Second Language (ESL) program is useful to working professionals and to
students preparing for university study or professional programs. Foreign
nationals who are already accepted in the mainstream programs of the university,
but encounter language difficulty posed by English as the medium of instruction,
are highly encouraged to undergo IEP.
This program offers four sessions yearly. Each sessions lasts
twelve weeks. In one year, ESL students should be able to progress through the
three-level core program. Classes meet three hours daily, five days per week.
The course of study is based on in an integrated skills approach
with listening, speaking, reading, writing, and grammar components with emphasis
on Functional English. Fluency and accuracy in both spoken and written English
are emphasized at different levels. Classes range from six to fifteen students.
The small class size allows each participant a maximum amount of individual
attention and an opportunity to develop conversational skills.
Intensive English classes at any specific level, beginning through
advanced, will depend on sufficient enrollment. Students must be open to
accepting a morning (9:00 am - 12:00 pm), afternoon (2:00 pm - 5:00 pm), or
evening schedule (6:00 pm - 9:00 pm) as assigned by the Program Coordinator.
Enrollees though, may identify their preferred schedule which could be arranged
by the teacher/s who would handle the classes after consultation with the
Program Coordinator.
