Orientation Seminar for Freshmen and Transferees (ORSEM)
By the College Guidance Center

This three-day annual activity is designed to introduce incoming students to academic expectations, University policies, and formation thrusts of the university; present to them key personnel and offices that will aid them throughout their stay in the University; give venue for administrators and faculty to meet and interact with incoming students; and provide them an opportunity to meet new friends. More specifically, this year’s ORSEM includes session on the University Vision-Mission, Ignatian Formation Framework and Program Design, and Introduction to the Profile of the Ateneo Graduate. Through this activity, it is hoped that new students in the University will be assisted in their adjustment to their new school and college life.

ReOrientation Seminar for Sophomore, Junior and Senior Students

This one-day activity is designed to reorient the upperclassmen - students to the demands especially of their academic disciplines as they advance in their major courses, as well as bring them to an appreciation of the formation programs and thrusts of the university. Through this activity, it is expected that the upper class students would feel challenged to live up to the character, identity and personality, degree of discipline and ethical standards expected of every Atenean.

Inter-Religious Orgs Conference (IROC 2007)

IROC is a conference workshop of leaders of the various religious organizations in the campus. It provides them an opportunity to interact, share and learn from and through their programs, concerns and formation activities with and among themselves. It also fosters a sense of harmony and camaderie among themselves as leaders of religious organizations and bond them together as a team. Whenever appropriate, it serves as a time to deepen and enrich their faith-life experiences through and in the context of their unique characteristics and attributes as religious organizations.

Gender Awareness Workshop 2: Self-Awareness for Men and Women

This will give the participants the chance to take a deeper look at themselves as men and women and see how their socializations have taught them about who they are and how they ought to behave based on stereotypical standards, beliefs, ideas and practices.

University Dress-Up Day

This is an initiative of the formation offices to invite all the members of the university community to come to the campus in formal-business attire, either as employee or student, at least once in a semester. It is hoped that this semestral occasion would help especially the students to learn and appreciate the value of ‘proper dressing’ and create an awareness of the need to respond to the ethical implications and social issues that go with this concern in today’s time.

Ateneo Basketball Developmental League: Tata Flores Cup

To further enhance the basketball skills of our high school and collegiate players, the Tata Flores Cup is a by invitation only basketball tournament to be participated in by high school and college teams in Naga and in nearby provinces. This is also a tribute to former Naga City councilor and Ateneo alumnus, Mr. Manuel “Tata” Flores, for the big contribution he had in the development of basketball in Naga.

Football has always been a popular sport for Ateneo schools. This tournament aims to add color to the celebration of the feast day of St. Ignatius of Loyola. This event shall be participated in by varsity teams from schools and football clubs in Bicol. A short video presentation and lecture shall take place before the start of the games to orient all participants to the life and works of St. Ignatius.

The activity would provide the students facts and figures as a general reading and assessment of the national and local situations that lead and urge them to see the crossroads and intersections and discern the best option that would lead people to the truth, eventual peace and prosperity.

on Career Exploration and Values Clarification

This modular activity aims to guide students in the development and exploration of personal career plans. It also seeks to encourage students to relate their thoughts and feelings and thus enrich their awareness of their own values. Consider this activity as building bridges from their academics to their next developmental stage – finding work. Without the bridge, they may easily stumble or lose their way, but with the bridge, there is safety and direction. Through this, students will learn how self-assessment exercises and strategic planning can be successfully applied to discovering themselves and advancing their careers.

This is a seminar-workshop for the different student leaders which will introduce them to a culture of teamwork, the principles that support it and the forces that challenge it.  As student leaders, they are expected to be able to respond to the different roles played by their team members and how they can enhance teamwork among themselves in the organization and in the process attain both individual and organizational growth. This seminar-workshop would offer them as leaders tools by which they could influence people together and achieve planned goals through teamwork.

Seniors’ 5-Day Directed Retreat

This is a live-in 5-day retreat.  It is an adaptation of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola for a shorter period.  The retreatants are individually directed for review and guidance in prayer and discernment.  (Participants to this kind of retreat are required to fill up a form at the CM or DAVP-F Office and to attend the preparatory sessions /meetings called by the office. Good for 24 participants, priority is on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.)

This is a four-day seminar-workshop which introduces the student leaders to the concepts and principles on leadership which are basically rooted in and deeply inspired by Ignatian Spirituality. Through the workshop, it is hoped that the student leaders would gain deeper appreciation of their leadership potentials and capabilities as a person who understands and accepts one’s strengths and weaknesses, values and worldview and possess the appropriate inspiration and motivation to significantly contribute to the growth and development of their own organization/association, and in establishing a clear direction and vision of the same.
