Profile of the Pedagogue

Religious or lay, administrator, teacher or staff member, the pedagogue in the Ateneo de Naga University is BY VOCATION both companion and guide to the students in their formation as men and women for others who will contribute to the total development of the family and human society.

As such, the pedagogue himself/herself is an advanced model of the graduate. Thus, he/she acknowledges the humanity and divinity of Christ and believes His Spirit as active in his/her life and in the lives of others. He/she participates actively in the life of society and the global community, and grows in consciousness of his/her dignity and personal purpose in engaging the world. He/she lives a life of exemplary integrity by cultivating an upright conscience that impresses on him/her the imperative to positively transform the world. And, he/she actuates the gift of education as an instrument to comprehend, judge, and resolve urgent and universal dilemmas.

The pedagogue appropriates for himself/herself the Mission of the University. He/she is genuinely concerned with and actively involved in the lives of the students, personalizing interest in each student's development. He/she professes exceptional knowledge, expertise and experience, and manifests continued interest in the development in education and in his/her specialization as well as in related fields. He/she demonstrates a high degree of integrative conceptualization and active experimentation as he/she learns more and more for himself/herself to facilitate the learning of others. He/she is effectively expressive and efficiently facilitative, sowing enthusiasm for depth and breadth in knowledge, creating the climate for learning, and nurturing in the students joy in continuous learning.

The pedagogue commits himself/herself to the creation and integration of new knowledge. He/she systematically experiments with new methodologies, prayerfully reflects on the efficacy of his/her professional practice, and generously shares his/her new discoveries. He/she recognizes his/her role in the centrality and dynamism of the University in the development of the global community.

The pedagogue values communion with humanity and all of creation. He/she puts premium on knowledge that leads to action, acknowledging that learning should lead to action and that action itself is an excellent methodology for learning. He/she guides his/her students toward solidarity with the marginalized masses and stewardship of God's creation.

The pedagogue in the Ateneo de Naga University, above all, lives the apostolic mission of the Church of seeking Primum Regnum Dei.
