Excellence begins with high standards. CORPLAN 2010 sets such high standards for the University in the spirit of the Ignatian magis, and institutionalizes the necessary mechanisms for evaluating the achievement of standards and goals for the curriculum, programs, projects and activities, as well as the performance of students, faculty, staff and administrators. Regular evaluations monitor achievement and performance and feedback toward constant improvement.
The New Grading system provides not only for measuring student achievement of their curricular requirements but also for decision-making on the adjustments in content, methodology and material. It is characterized by frequency, intensity and variety so that both teachers and students welcome tests and term examinations themselves as additional learning experiences and as simulated preparation for the many examinations graduates later take for various purposes. All academic departments work at standardizing departmental examinations for greater validity and reliability.
The entire curriculum with all its major and minor programs, all the University policies and procedures undergo regular review for fine-tuning to the standards and goals and for keeping constantly in step with the demands of CORPLAN 2010. The University likewise adopts external evaluation through the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU) to supplement overall evaluation of its operations.
With the approval of CORPLAN 2010, the University adopts a supervisory and evaluation system for all the administrators, teachers, academic and non-academic staff, and personnel for two basic reasons: (1) to improve performance by assisting the faltering, by encouraging the tired, and by directing the indecisive, and (2) to provide a rational, objective and equitable basis for critical administrative decisions on tenure, promotion in rank or position, and retention.
Such supervisory and evaluation system includes clear criteria most of which are now generally articulated in Section 6, Profile of the Pedagogue, and details of which are established with significant involvement of both the supervisors and evaluators together with the supervisees and evaluatees. It provides opportunities for increased involvement of all concerned in the actual functioning of the system. It also provides opportunities to use multiple sources of data to ensure the fullest possible picture both of departmental/office/unit as well as individual performance. Finally, it allows feedback activities that encourage professional growth.
