Philippine Social Science Council (PSSC) Ford IFP

The Philippine Social Science Council (PSSC) is a private, not-for-profit organization of professional social science assocations in the Philippines. It was founded in 1968 by leading Filipino social scientists to promote the development of social sciences and enhance the use of social science knowledge and expertise in social analsis and public policy-making. Since its inception, the Council has done this by encouraging the growth of Filipino social science associations and institutions; supporting training activities that upgrade and update social science teaching and research in the Philippines; and disseminating social science knowledge and research findings via conferences and publications.

As an IFP International Partner, the PSSC helps shape the Program globally and implements it locally. PSSC performs the main tasks of interacting with Fellows, from initial outreach to selection, through placement, ongoing support, and post-Fellowship acitivites. Visit the PSSC website at www.pssc.org.ph

What is the Ford Foundation International Fellowships Program (IFP)?

The Ford Foundation International Felllowships Program (IFP) awards graduate fellowships to candidates who have demonstrated social commitment, leadership and academic achievement. The IFP reaches out to a new generation of potential leaders from groups and communities that have traditionally lacked access to higher education and know at first hand the problems facing their countries and communities. Worldwide, IFP is being implemented in 22 countries and territories in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East, as well as Russia.

More than 1,500 IFP Fellows have been selected since 2001. By 2005, over 1,000 Fellows will have enrolled in more than 300 universities in their home countries and regions, Australia, continental Europe, the United Kingdom, and the United States. For more information, visit www.FordIFP.net

What's in store for IFP Fellows?

Successful applicants will be able to pursue their program of study in schools in their own country or abroad. IFP will cover the cost of up to three years of graduate study, including full tuition and other fees, travel allowances, living allowances, and health insurance coverage. They will also undergo a pre-academic training on English language proficiency, social research conceptualization and methodologies and basic computer operations and programs.

Who may apply?

Any resident of the Philippines or resident Filipino citizen residing or working in a 4th, 5th or 6th class municipality or 4th or 5th class city may apply.
