The College of Education, responding to the needs of the Philippines and the Asia Pacific Region in the next decade for balanced and relevant education programs, commits itself to assist and
facilitate personal and social transformation through research, training, and development of
teachers, scholars and other professionals committed to serve and imbued with the Ignatian
spirituality and charism.
The College of Education aims to prepare top caliber teachers who are sensitive and responsive
to the needs of the Bicol Region, in particular and of the Philippine society, in general and who
can provide leadership and effective service to their respective communities and to the nation as
a whole.
1948 |
The Permit to Offer Curriculum I of Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education
(BSE) was granted through Government Recognition Number 399 s. 1948. |
1954 |
Bachelor of Elementary Education was finally offered. Government Recognition
Number 111, s. 1954 which allowed the offering of Curriculum II of BSE was
awarded. |
1956 |
Government Recognition to offer Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education
(BSEEd) was granted. |
1960 |
In the 1960's, scheme was devised to five-year courses. Other than the BSE and
BSSEd, BS-BSE and AB-BSE courses were offered until 1970.
In the 1960's and 1970's, the Department was run by Miss Milagros Z. Reyes.
Although small in number, it produced graduates of high caliber. |
1971 |
Young Educators of Ateneo de Naga (YEAN) was formed. This died with the
closure of the Department in 1974. |
1974 |
The Department had to close due to dwindling enrollment and financial problem. |
1980-1981 |
Bachelor of Science in Education (BSE) was re-offered. |
1981 |
Ateneo de Naga was granted by PAASCU three years accreditation status, Level I
for its Liberal Arts, Education and Commerce programs |
1982 |
The Ateneo Guild of Education Students (AGES) was formed. |
1983-1984 |
Miss Maria P. Almonte was named chairperson of the Social Sciences and
Education Department. |
1984-1985 |
Enrollment started to take its peak because of the COCOFED Scholarships. Mr.
Ireneo P. Llana took over the post. |
1985 |
PAASCU Level II re-accreditation status for a period of five to seven years |
1985-1986 |
Mrs. Lydia T. Goingo was tasked with the management of the Education
Department.
The Department not only grew in quantity but also in quality. She initiated the
Group Growth Activities to address the low self-esteem among the students.
Facilitators' Guild (FG) and Leadership Training Seminar-Workshops (LTS) were
conducted.
With the influence of more nationalistic sentiments, AGES was renamed
Samahang Tagapagtaguyod ng Edukasyong Pilipino (STEP). |
1988 |
Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) was awarded through Government
Permit 008, s. 1988. |
1989 |
In response to the need of Bikol for quality education through the formation and
continuing professional education of teachers, the Ateneo Teacher Training Center
was established with Mrs. Lydia T. Goingo as founding Director. Special
Learning Package (SLP) and seminar-workshops were conducted. |
1990-1991 |
The number of students rose to over 300 during the first semester – a growth of
411% within five years.
KADUNONG, the official publication of the Education Department was founded. |
1992 |
PAASCU Level II re-accreditation status for a period of five to seven years |
1993 |
Dr. Victoria F. Enojado assumed post as Department Chair.
Ma. Gracia Dorotea Nobleza was 3rd national placer at the Professional Board
Examination for Teachers. |
1994 |
The Department was under the leadership of Mr. Arnulfo Aaron R. Reganit. |
1995 |
Ateneo Teacher Training Center was accredited as Continuing Professional
Education Provider by the Professional Regulation Commission as per PRC
Resolution Number 381 s., 1995 under the directorship of Mr. Ronald SP. Elicay. |
1996 |
Cynthia Borromeo landed seventh national placer in the Professional Board
Examination for Teachers |
1997 |
The Department was separated from the College of Arts and Sciences on August
25 and became an independent college. |
1998 |
Dr. Arnulfo Aaron R. Reganit was appointed as the first Dean of the College.
1998 Mr. Levi Francisco topped (1st Placer) the Licensure Examination for Teachers in
the entire country.
The College of Education was granted Level II Accreditation by the PAASCU. |
1999 |
Mr. Bernardo R. Marquez obtained second highest rating in the Licensure
Examination for Teachers in the entire Philippines.
Early Childhood Education was offered as one of the areas of specialization for
the BEED. |
2000 |
Ateneo Child Learning Center was established with Mrs. Romelita D.V. Panga as
the first Director. |
2001 |
The Professional Regulation Commission and the Commission on Higher
Education designated the College of Education as one of the top performing
teachers training institutions in the Licensure Examination for Teachers in the
entire country.
Guidance and Counseling was offered as a new area of specialization in the BEEd
curriculum.
The Filipino Cluster was created with Mrs. Delia E. Volante as the first Program
Director. |
2002 |
Ma. Victoria C. Bernido was a national second placer in the Licensure
Examination for Teachers . |
2003 |
Re-accreditation Level II status was granted by PAASCU.
Daves Tonga became 3rd national placer in the Licensure Examination for
Teachers. |
2004 |
The College obtained the Level III PAASCU Accreditation and became the first
training institution in Bikol and in Southern Luzon with such distinction.
To attract the best and brightest in the teaching profession, the Education Honors
Program was created.
The Department of Education granted the Ateneo Child Learning Center
Government Recognition on September 9 with Government Recognition Number
004, s. 2004. |
2005 |
The following innovative courses were offered, namely: Bachelor of Library
Information Science (BLIS), double degree programs (BS-BSE and AB-BSE) and
Bachelor of Science in Special Education (BSSped) .
The College of Education partnered with Intel Teach Philippines in the
implementation of ICT curriculum. |
2006 |
The Innovative Mentoring Program for Authentic Classroom Teaching (IMPACT)
was formulated for the experiential learning courses.
SPED Executive Program was offered for the professionals who wish to earn
units in special education. |
2007 |
Miss Julie Lucille H. del Valle was selected as one of the Top Ten Outstanding
Students of the Philippines (TOSP).
The College formulated the core competencies, skills and attitudes (Scholarship,
Leadership, Commitment to Others, Reflective Teaching) expected of a graduate
from the College of Education.
The graduates dominated the regional top ten in the Licensure Examination for
Teachers. |
2008 |
The Commission on Higher Education designated the College of Education as
Center of Excellence in Teacher Education.
The Department of Education and the Commission on Higher Education
designated the College of Education as Center of Training.
Miss Estefani S. Vargas was the 7th national topnotcher in the Licensure
Examination for Teachers.
Eight graduates dominated the regional top ten in the Licensure Examination for
Teachers.
Miss Ira Sheena C. Howard was named as one of the Ten Outstanding Students of
the Philippines and was elected as President of the Student Supreme Government.
She graduated as class valedictorian.
The Ateneo Teacher Training Center was accredited by the Commission on
Higher Education as Review Center for Teacher Education Program with Permit
No. 032, s. 2008.
Nine freshmen qualified for monthly stipend from the 1000 Teachers Program of
the Philippine Business for Education.
International Exchange Program with Malang State University, Indonesia was
implemented. 20 Indonesian students came on November 14 for their experiential
learning. |
2009 |
SPED and Elementary Education Cluster was created with Mrs. Ma. Jeannette
Naval as the first Program Director.
Miss Dianna Aborde became one of the regional qualifiers in the search for Ten
Outstanding Students of the Philippines.
Miss Ira Sheena C. Howard was conferred Mayoral Recognition Award for her
outstanding service and performance in her chosen field of endeavor |
