MISSION STATEMENT

In line with the Mission Statement of the Ateneo de Naga University, the College of Arts and Sciences seeks to provide all students with a liberal education, serving as the core curriculum. It also offers areas of specialization suited to the student’s talents and interests.

Through these courses and particularly through the core curriculum, the College collaboratively works with the University in forming students into integrally developed persons-for-others who are characterized by competence, conscience, compassionate commitment to change, and Christ-centeredness.

GOALS

Through the core curriculum, the College seeks to develop in the students:

1. Greater proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, numerical, and other skills for lifelong learning;
2. The ability to think critically and creatively and to communicate these thoughts clearly, accurately, truthfully;
3. Awareness of self and one’s potentials, and the motivation or resolve to develop optimally these potentials for the benefit of humanity in general;
4. The ability to reflect and appreciate human experience through the humanities, e.g. philosophy, literature, and the arts;
5. The ability to search for truth and knowledge through an interest and active participation in pure and applied research, and to apply this knowledge as well as technological advances in a moral and ethical manner;
6. Adequate knowledge, deep appreciation, love, and commitment to the culture of human life everywhere, but especially in Bicol, through the preservation and enhancement of Bicol culture; and
7. A deep Christian conscience nourished through Sacramental worship which will lead them to a fuller commitment to community development and nation-building.

Through the specialized courses, the College seeks particularly to develop in the students:

1. competence in their chosen field of specialization; and
2. the ability to integrate their field of specialization with the broader aspects of life and with Christian human values.
